Building the Perfect Bloody Mary May 29 2015
The Bloody Mary is a popular cocktail usually containing tomato juice, vodka and a combination of other spices and flavorings. The Bloody Mary has become so complex, you often see a salad bar type of offering on how to dress the cocktail. Garnishes for the Bloody Mary often include pickles, olives, lemons, limes, onions, Worcestershire Sauce, Hot Sauce and the list goes on and on.
The Bloody Mary’s origin is unclear with multiple establishments taking credit for the invention. The first claim is by Fernand Petiot in 1921 while he was working at the New York Bar in Paris. The name is said to be after Queen Mary I of England although it may just be named after a waitress in Chicago, Mary. We know one thing for sure, a Bloody Mary is a brunch staple no matter how you mix it.
My dad always made Bloody Mary’s for our football tailgates. He kept his recipe fairly simple using vodka, a Bloody Mary Mix and a secret ingredient. His Bloody Mary was always my favorite until I found The Bloody Mary Spice Master Collection from La Boîte. They have four spice blends for making your Bloody Mary with vodka, gin, tequila and aquavit. The collection comes with serving suggestions for each pairing and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Don’t tell my dad, but I’ve found a new favorite Bloody Mary. To keep things fair, I’ll be gifting my dad the collection this Father’s Day. He can keep working on his recipe and will likely win my vote again for favorite Bloody Mary. Shop the Bloody Mary Spice Master Collection here.
Happy Friday,
