Akesson’s Single Plantation Chocolate
Bertil Akesson grew up traveling the world with his father, a Swedish Diplomat. There journeys lead them to settle in Madagascar and that is where Bertil learned all about cacao and spices. This is where he would later learn the subtleties of managing & developing plantations. Now Akesson’s Chocolate comes from plantations in Madagascar, Indonesia & Brazil. He is supplying chocolate to some of the best chefs and chocolatiers around the world. At the same time Akesson is combining his love of cacao and spices and creating some of the most outstanding single plantation chocolate bars in the world.
I was first introduced to Akesson’s Single Plantation Chocolate when I was living in London back in 2012. The chocolate community in the UK is very connected and it was a great place to learn about chocolate and the differences between various producers, origins, etc. Akesson Chocolate always stood out as a bar that was really pleasant without adding too many extras. I quickly became a fan. It really helped that there was a small Akesson boutique in my neighborhood where I could easily buy the bars. My favorite is the 55% Dark Milk Chocolate from their Fazenda Sempre Firme plantation in Brazil. I hope you’ll find a favorite in the collection as well.
