Cacao Prieto is a Brooklyn, New York based company producing farm-to-bar chocolate daily from the finest organic, single-origin Dominican Republic Chocolate. At closer look, it becomes clear that Cacao Prieto is also a crucial meeting place of ideas, dreams, technology and tradition. It is a place where by creating chocolate the right way there is an idealistic sense of purpose that this might make the world a better place. Founded by inventor and aerospace engineer Daniel Prieto Preston, whose family has been farming cacao in the Dominican Republic for more than 100 years. By sourcing organic cacao from Coralina Farm(the family’s farm) and organic sugars from the Dominican Republic, Cacao Prieto is now one of the few chocolate companies in the world that is completely vertically integrated from the farm to the finished product.
I first noticed Cacao Prieto on a shopping trip in Brooklyn. I was drawn to their chocolate bar by the beautiful and distinct packaging. I took a bar of the Almond Sea Salt Bark home and at first taste I knew it was perfect for the marketplace.
