Tara Grey has had a love for local products far before it became trendy. Growing up in Western Michigan she was surrounded by fresh cherries, peaches, corn and much more. As a young girl, Tara was introduced to canning by her grandmother, but it was not until 20 years later that Tara became inspired to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps. In her NYC apartment, she began making her grandmother’s recipe for bread & butter pickles and very quickly moved on to creating her own recipes for jams.

A few years later, Tara found herself back in Michigan and this is when Gus & Grey was born. As the self-proclaimed jam pimp, Tara creates her jams with a lot of love. Each jam is produced using local ingredients whenever possible. They are made in small batches to ensure perfection.

The first jam I tasted from Gus & Grey was their Notorius F.I.G.(available in season). It was served to me with some foie gras, prepared by my friend Jeremy.  That bite was so delicious, I immediately wanted to know more about the jam. With Jeremy's introduction, I reached out to Tara and met her shortly thereafter when she was visiting New York City.  We had a great meeting and, as they say, the rest is history.
